What is your favorite charity for giving cash and why is that one your favorite?

Which charity - specifically - would you suggest is the best to give a cash contribution. Not the United Way (as good as they are)...but a stand alone charity that is deserving of our money.


And, why do you recommend that charity?

The Salvation Army. I have worked with different organizations in local community service. The Salvation Army accepts all, helps all, and is on the scene quickly and quietly. They don't spend all their funds on advertising, their volunteers just get there and get to work. I am proud to have worked with them for over 7 years. The best and toughest job I never got paid for!!

Reply:In my life, the charity belong to several ways.





Cash - Normally I give cash (quarterly) to the orphanages where I have my sponsored children. This money will be separated into children's welfare, education, food etc, and savings (in their accounts).





I think it is the best way to contribute the sponsored children.





I also contribute cash together with other things to a poor family in my neighborhood. This is not a regular activity as above.





Other than that I buy materials, food items etc for the needy people when I see them. There are no exact or regular person.
Reply:Salvation Army. I can never pass the person that rings the bell at Christmas time. I've seen the help they give people that really need it and I'm not ashamed to say that when I was first starting out raising my children on my own I went there when I needed help and was very grateful to get it. They get all my clothes donations and the things I thought I needed but didn't. Sometimes when the stores have really good sales at the end of the season I'll go shop just to donate new stuff. The same thing with the food shelf.

Epilepsy Foundation:aka Movement Disorder. Friends/Family members associated with it.


Heart Association: Husband had a heart attack.

It's a charity STARTED by a little girl undergoing chemo. It's a charity to benefit pediatric cancer.


While undergoing treatment for cancer, she started a lemonade stand. She gave all hear earnings to a local cancer research center. I give to this charity because of this girl's example, and because it's the fund/organization that SHE set up. Even if ya don't give to her organization, check out the sight. Alex passed away, but definately deserves to be remembered.

Reply:Salvation Army, they help my family out and we didnt have to jump threw a bunch of hoops just to get it. And any local hospital because health care providers work 24/7 and it is never ending. When working in the healthcare field , you truly are working for your money and it is really nice when u get a cash bonus and many local hospitals just cant afford to do that for every single employee. It takes alot to keep taking crap from sick people who dont want help most of the time!
Reply:World Vision. I have done a fast called the 30 Hour Famine for the last 3 years. And almost all the proceeds go to the needy children. I do bakesales and such to raise money for World Vision. Another great organization is PID (Partners in Development) It is in Ipswich Mass. But I have been to Guatemala with this little organization and wow did we do a lot. They also go to Haiti. It's an amazing little group that really could expand if people gave and supported them.
