How can I cash a stimulus check in someone elses name?

My ex renter/friend left town, leaving me with damage to my property. I received his stimulus check in the mail, and I was wondering how I could cash this to get reimbursed?

How can I cash a stimulus check in someone elses name?
You can't. That would be fraud. Checks can only be cashed by the person whose name is on the check.

You can sue your friend for damages, but you can't legally commit a fraud or theft in order to compensate yourself.
Reply:lol...go ahead, but i hope it's worth going to jail over it.. You can steal other people's money.. It's fraud plus, you can go to jail for opening his mail...
Reply:You can't. It's illegal. If he is willing he could endorse it to you but some banks wouldn't even accept it then.,
Reply:That would be a felony and then some.

You would have to go through the legal system.

Contact a lawyer.

I can't believe you'd even ask that here.
Reply:You can't. If you were to deposit the check somehow, or get it cashed, this means that the person doing the depositing or cashing is not doing their job. The government will not honor checks that are deposited into or cashed off of accounts that are not owned by the same name that the check is made out to. Your bank would turn around and take the amount of the check out of your account, and this would cause you problems with your account. It is just not worth it.
Reply:You cannot.

Doing so would be a federal offense.
Reply:fake a sign then deposit it in your account. You better have permission. Lawyers will charge you about 5000 dollars for the case... not a good investment
Reply:You could go to jail especially if he checks on the refund check and it is determined that it has been cashed. The IRS don't play. You may want to ask the ex friend to pay you. Go with him/her to cash the check and get your money or take them to small claims court. Its not worth your freedom.
