Does anyone know when the government will cash the check I payed for taxes?

Truth be told.. I'm floating a check that a sent out yesterday to pay for my taxes.

I just wanted to avoid any accrualls or penalties for paying it late...

But I'm hoping they won't cash it till the 30th... Does anyone know the time frame for them to cash those checks?

Or at least guestimate?

Thanks all!

They separate the checks from the forms as soon as they arrive, so they can deposit the checks as quickly as possible. I definitely would NOT expect that to take 15 days!
Reply:Normally, it will be cashed long before the 30th - so you'll be liable for penalties, and also the bounce charges from your bank. Try to cover it. You should be good until maybe the end of the week - figure a couple days in the mail, then a couple days for them to open it and submit the check. But by early next week you're in trouble.
Reply:My Fed tax check was deposited 48 hrs after I sent it. So, you better make sure you have the funds there cause the Feds do not take kindly to a bounced check. Get that money in there now cause the penalty is pretty high, plus, they kinda keep an eye on you, like flag you for future audits.
Reply:The IRS usually cashes it within three days of receiving it. Unless they have a really big pile, they are going to cash it before the 30th. Sorry.
Reply:Of all the people to float a check to, the IRS is probably one of the worst you could have chosen.

Last year, I definitely remember my check was cashed within less than a week after I mailed it. And that was pretty close to April 15, too.

(This year they withdrew their money from my checking account less than 12 hours after I had e-filed!)

Sorry for the bad news. Better see if you can borrow from a friend or someone quick, and make that check good!
