How do I give money to the poor? I have a surplus of cash and I want to give to poor people.?

I have a surplus of cash I want to give to poor people during the holidays.

I don't exactly know how I go about doing this.

I don't want to simply write a check and put it in the mail.

I'd like to get more personal, maybe sit down and buy a family dinner.

Is there some organized way of doing this besides randomly driving around my city??

How do I give money to the poor? I have a surplus of cash and I want to give to poor people.?
A. Food shelf

Does your town have a food shelf? If so, you can go there and ask what products they are low on, and actually do the grocery shopping yourself and then make the donation. This way, you'll be able to have more control over what you're donating.

B. Soup Kitchen

I've never actually been to a soup kitchen, BUT I'm sure they wouldn't be hesitant to accept donations. They feed the homeless, poor, or people who simply don't have enough money left for food. You could probably even sit down and eat with the people, and get to know some of them on a more personal level.
Reply:Contact a local Kiwanis Club. They are a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time. The local clubs often have insights as to where money's are needed in a community. You can find a local club by going to the Kiwanis International web site and doing a club search.

Good luck.
Reply:Maan, do this, go to a world vision web site down load information from your part of the world, lets say your an American then go to world vision.com and sponsor a couple of poor children for a couple of years. It is a grea reward to do this.
Reply:find a social service office ask about a local food pantry. or call churches they always know who need help. I highly recommend the food pantry I did volunteer work in one it can be a real wake up.
Reply:I will just share a bit of my experience. I have pastores twice, both times in small churches, and members of the community would help us because we were always accontable for every penny given to us. When donation is given understand that you still have no right to tell someone what to do with the money. Try to think of something that you too believe is a good cause. Or, are there homeless around you? Buy a bunch of socks, hats, gloves, whatever you can see they need. Finally, you can ask more about my music ministry,(knew it was coming huh?) but 8 months ago all my instruments were stolen, I have a on eperson ministry of goiong to nursing homes, etc., shutins, and singing for them to encourage them. I still need to replace guitar. But the fact that you are asking shows your heart in right place.

Reply:Please never give any thing in cash. Instead, if possible probe into the dire needs of the poor person, help him in kind by providing him the required food, clothes or if he appears to be prospective you can help him in getting him educated. You can form into a service organisation with some more like-minded,so that your funds will be sufficient to help more under-privileged in their subsistance and living. You can support them only when they make a sincere attempt to live on their own.

Once I happened to meet a group of like-minded good men and women (all are making their living through hard work but still wanted to help the needy) in Columbus,US doing a good job to those underprivileged and needy through the funds raised from their own savings! It was not the surplus cash what they have..but the kind heart that made them sacrifice a pretty good amount from their earnings. These are just mediocre in their earnings. There is a scriptural saying in Sanskrit " na dhanena, na karmana, na prajaaya, tyageneike amritattwa maanashuhu" It means:

'Not by wealth or riches, not by work or not by ones off-spring - but only by sacrifice one becomes immortal in this mortal world!'

Whenever you are helping the poor and needy always have a feeling that you are privileged and fortunate to do so. Let no element of self-conceit would overtake your genuine feeling to help or serve others. Love all and Serve all should be the motto. The hands that serve are holier than the lips that pray!Thank you for the opportunity given to me!
Reply:i always thought if i ever had that opportunity i would seek out someone personally that way i know for sure where it goes
Reply:If I had a surplus of cash I would adopt a family for Christmas. It's a fun way to help a family in need for the holiday season. Many local charities has lists of families that are in need. Also your local domestic violence shelter could use your help. Most of the women there have many children and in most cases no job and you can do what is called "sponsoring". I hope this helps and that you find the way you want to help.

Reply:find out how to donate to a childrens hospital. then the children who need it most will be helped.
Reply:THANK YOU FOR YOUR GENEROSITY

I WOULD CHECK WITH ANY ORGANIZATION BEFORE I GAVE THEM ANY MONEY. MOST OF THEM TAKE OUT FEES FOR ADMINISTRATION..

IT ENDS UP THERE IS VERY LITTLE MONEY THAT YOU HAVE DONATED THAT GETS TO THE CAUSE.

ANY HOMELESS SHELTER IS MY FAVORITE. OR A HOMLESS MISSION. THEY GIVE FOOD AND CLOTHING TO PEOPLE. IT IS FREE.

SALVATION ARMY USED TO BE MY FAVORITE UNTIL I FOUND OUT 30% GOES TO HEADQUARTERS. THEN PEOPLE ARE CHARGED AN ARM AND A LEG FOR CLOTHES, ETC. FORGET THAT.
Reply:You can send money to Rotary Club of Pokhara Mid Town.

District No. 3290 and Club No. 60675,in Pokhara, Nepal.

If it is easier to send it as Account Payee then you can use one of the Rotarians bank account number.

The money will be well utilised for poor and remote children's education.
Reply:Here I am! But seriously... go to the local Salvation Army or something...
Reply:This is really noble of you. Maybe you can try talking to an organization that can help you set up projects. Aside from giving food, maybe you can organize livelihood projects, those that can help the less fortunate develop certain skills they can use to make a living.
Reply:hi there,
