How much cash can I carry in a plane?

I'll be travelling to Brazil from Canada (2 week vacation), and will carry with me about $1000 cash (I guess I'll put it in my wallet). Will I be fine? Will it be alarming to the airport authorities?

How much cash can I carry in a plane?
1000 is fine. But it's illegal to either carry out of Canada or bring in to Canada more than $10,000 without doing a customs declaration. (It's not illegal to HAVE more than $10,000; but it's illegal not to REPORT that you have it. See this website for full details.
Reply:i think you should carry some money in your wallet and some in your other pocket. carrying $1000.00 is normal, the law allow you to carry up to$10,000.00 in total currency before you are harassed by customs agent. they may ask you for the amount you are carrying when you reach Canada, just to confirm you are able to support your self while you are visiting their country. and if you have to change terminals or airlines and you have to go through the metal detectors before boarding you don't have to present to any one, just make sure you only have paper documents.
Reply:As long as it's not over the legal limit for entering and departing Canada, you can take as much as you want.

But suggest you carry it in a money belt, not a wallet. And why would you take so much cash anyway. There are ATMs in Canada.
Reply:this amount shouldnt be an issue my husband always travels overseas with several thousand in cash. check with the airline to see the limit. i flew to indonesia once and was required to have about 1800 with me to get into the country.
Reply:$1,000.00 will be fine. if you bring $10,000 US custom will stop you and they will ask you WHY? and for what
Reply:You can bring up to $10,000 without problems.
